Angelina's Newsletter: November 2019

Updated: Aug 26

Angelina's Song was founded in 2017 by Lou and Nicole Miele after their daughter, Angelina, lost her 15 month battle with a very rare cancer — Synovial Sarcoma — at the age of 11.

Angelina's Song is a tribute to Angelina's generosity and her affinity for music and dancing. In an act of loving innovation, TouchTunes unveiled the Angelina, their technologically advanced jukebox built to invoke the spirt of Angelina: Beautiful inside and out, intelligent, fun, and awash in music.

Over the past year, jukeboxes have been installed on free play for the kids at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, UMC Children's Hospital Las Vegas, UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, and the Janet Weis Children's Hospital at Geisinger. In addition, Angelina's Song has donated $10,000 to pediatric cancer research and over $12,000 to six different hospitals who applied for grants.

The research behind music therapy and all its applications are truly amazing, It has the power to stabilize heart rates, alleviate pain and anxiety, and improve motor skills and speech, Every child should have access to it, if only for the pure joy! In the future, Angelina's Song looks to expand into adult music therapy for veteran related PTSD, Alzheimers, and Dementia.

With the help of her family, friends, and the contribution of donors like you, Angelina's Song will endure and grow. From our greatest pain, often comes our greatest strength.

HEALING, A SONG AT A TIME

"Like play, music is universal. When patients and families enter the playroom the jukebox is a way to bring everyone together. It unites people in sometimes the most unexpected circumstances but yet in the most beautiful way. It is a wonderful distraction from the chaos that surrounds the, in the hospital," said Cassandra Ricci, Certified Child Life Specialist at the University Medical Center of Southern Nevada, pictured at top.

Jukeboxes are now up and running at UMC Las Vegas, Geisinger Children's Hospital in Danville, Pa., and UPMC Pittsburgh. The jukebox lights up UPMC's teen room, as pictured above.

SEPTEMBER LOBSTER BAKE

Over the Labor Day weekend, friends and family gather at the Miele home for a Lobster Bake. Music and laughter were the stars of the evening, while Citizen Cope played live, and then graciously played auctioneer.

Party-goers lined up to be the potential proud new owner of a Willie Nelson autographed guitar, or the beauty, pictured above, autographed by Sheryl Crow. TJ Miele took the Sheryl Crow autographed guitar home.

Clarence Greenwood, of Citizen Cope; Sabrina, Angelina's sister; TJ Miele; Ally, Angelina's sister; and Nicole Miele, stepmother, line up for a photo opportunity.

PRESIDENT'S LETTER

Hello, Friends and Family,

This holiday season, as our thoughts turn toward love and generosity, Angelina is alive and still singing in our hearts.

We are reminded of how she always thought of helping other kids. Before her cancer diagnosis she loved to volunteer at special events and loved to give to kids who were without, or sick. After, Angelina would ask to buy gifts for the other kids on her floor at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

Angelina's legacy continues to be about bringing the joy and restorative power of music to more and more children while they are hospitalized. Well through the holidays and into the new year, we will carry on, sharing her love and gracious spirit.

All the best to you and yours,

— Nicole
